Sip 'N' Stroll: As a warm-up for next spring's Hill Country Wine and Food Festival, the organization is sponsoring a very enjoyable-sounding Sip 'N' Stroll event at three of The Domain's new restaurants. The concept is simple: you wander from restaurant to restaurant in groups, and each of them serves you a flight of wines and some paired appetizers. NoRTH features Italian eats, so naturally they'll be focusing on Italy's wine varietals. Regan Jasper, the sommelier at NoRTH, will be on hand to explain his selections and teach attendees the basics of Italian food and wine pairings. Austin wine expert and PBS "The Winemakers" contestant Ross Outon will then take the group to Joe DiMaggio's, where he'll also pour Italian wines paired with steakhouse fare. The finale will feature a range of appetizers from upscale comfort food specialists Jasper's paired with an international wine flight pairing by wine expert Matthew Scott. The event should be quite a treat, and we're particularly fond of the "walking around" aspect of the event given the perfect fall weather now in play. Have some snacks, try nine new wines, and learn a little!

Blind Wines At Green Pastures: This is one of a weekly series that is a welcome addition to Austin's wine scene. A new site called WineBat (see what they did there?) is sponsoring blind tastings of different wine varietals at a location that changes monthly. November's events take place at the lovely Green Pastures, and the 11/1 event features the big bad red: Cabernet Sauvignon. After an opening reception, the wines on offer will be paired with these delicious savory items: bacon-wrapped jalapeño-stuffed quail, artisan blue cheese with dried cherries and pecans, cast-iron beef with rosemary garlic, and mushrooms and boursin. Those are some big, heavy meat and cheese flavors, so you'll certainly be able to tell which of the Cabs can stand up to the boldly chosen food pairings. The cost is quite reasonable as well: just $25 per person plus tax. At these prices, it's tough to imagine an excuse not to attend. Future sessions at Green Pastures will survey Pinot Noir (11/8), Bordeaux (11/15), and Zinfandel (11/29). If you've attended any of these tastings already, please let us know what they're pouring (and if you enjoyed it) in the comments.

Awesome. I can't think of a better use for $50.
