Want To Hear Your Future Read By an Elf?

Robert Stikmanz, AKA Jackanapes Plenty, AKA fully human Austin author Robert Lewis, will appear in one of his many guises to preview his new book, Nod’s Way, at BookPeople this Saturday. Nod’s Way is part fantasy, part I Ching manual from another dimension, so if you have any burning questions that Dr. Laura or George Noory can’t answer, here’s your chance to consult a real live ancient oracle.

Nod’s Way is a follow-up to Stikmanz’s first novel, Prelude To A Change of Mind. Both were published by local, independent Dalton Publishing. Prelude tells the story of an unsuspecting human, Meg Christmas, who finds herself nursed out of illness by a strange race of magical interlopers, known as Dvarsh. One thing leads to another, and soon Meg's new diminutive friends tell her that she must bear a child in order to save the world. We'll let you find out for yourself if she falls for that line, but there's no need to know the whole story to understand Nod’s Way. It is less a sequel than a companion piece, an object from Stikmanz's fiction world. In Prelude, characters consult it to help make decisions. Dalton has packaged the book along with a blank journal and a set of multi-sided dice, marked with mysterious Dvarsh figures—the better to see your future with.

If this is starting to sound like the perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon, then be advised that Stikmanz’s reading will also feature local experimental musicians Thomas Fang and Martin McCreadie. Dalton promises a team of consulting seers on-site. They write,

If you have an interest in testing fundamental issues of your life against the ancient wisdom of a ficititious people, this event will offer the tools and expertise for doing so.

Enough said.
