Pat Yourselves On the Back, Austinites—You're Damn Sexy (But Those Shoes Have Got To Go)

At least that's according to Travel + Leisure magazine, which just released its annual rankings of America's Favorite Cities, as based on a survey taken by over 60,000 people. Austinites are ranked as the fourth Most Attractive, and first in "Overall" characteristics.

The results, presented from both the visitor and resident's perspective, also give a pretty accurate general indication of how we feel about the state of things here, from what we're most jazzed about (Live Music) to what we're less than pleased with (Easy of Getting Around/Public Transportation).

Stuff that we did scored pretty low on:

Big-name restaurants (#23), Museums/galleries (#20), Luxury boutiques (#24), Shoes (#22), Sophisticated getaway (#20)

Other things we scored well on:

Fun People (#2), Safety (#2), Barbecue (#1), Cleanliness (#4), Environmental Awareness (#4), Intelligent People (#3), Underground arts scene (#3), Cheap Eats (#2), Singles Scene (#1)

Surprised? We're not. Just look at all of our gorgeous Myspace friends!

Pedestrian friendly? Please -- what a fucking joke. I nearly get plowed on my daily 5-block walk to Congress Ave to catch the bus.

What would help is walk signs that automatically change to the "walker" with the green light instead of a push-button method. I don't need to touch a greasy button two light-cycles in advance to safely cross the street on a green light, but otherwise cars pay no heed to a person crossing in the cross walk.

    Sadly, cars rule this city.

    You're welcome.

It is a travesty that the city that houses AYC is only fourth in the Most Attractive category. Perhaps he was in Milan doing a photo shoot when the good people of Travel + Leisure were in town.

The funny thing about this is that everything we scored low on is what makes us unique. In a few years it will probably be flip flopped. Take that as you will.

Wow, these rankings are really meaningful! It's no surprise that we beat Chicago, San Francisco, DC, Philly, and New York in being pedestrian friendly!

We're the McConaughey to their Stallone.

Poor Philadelphians, they finished dead last in the attractive category.

    Ugliest City in America...

we however should pat ourselves on the back for being pretty hot.

  •  Although the web offers many advantages in business, one of the drawbacks is reduced direct customer interaction.
