Brief Austin resident and alt-country namesake Richard Buckner has had a career as tumultuous as it has been consistently rewarding. Making his mark with the appropriately-titled debut Bloomed in 1994, Buckner has outlived many of his No Depression-era singer-songwriter contemporaries, whose projects have either splintered, broken up, or just puttered out. After fruitful collaborations with like-minded musicians like Chicago stalwarts David Grubbs and John McEntire and a difficult spate with MCA records (who summarily dropped Buckner), the California-based musician seems to have finally found a home with the respectable North Carolina label Merge, who released his latest album, Meadow, in 2006. Alternately mellow, driving, and comforting, Buckner’s signature style is really quite unique.

Opening up for Buckner is David Dondero, also a singer-songwriter with one foot planted firmly in the Americana musicianship of yore. Signed to Conor Obert’s Team Love records, Dondero cut his teeth as a drummer for punk bands before taking the solo route. His latest release Simple Love features contemplative titles including “Rothko Chapel” and “One Legged man and the Three Legged Dog.” Also playing: Lo-fi Austin musician Aaron Blount, who most recently began palling around with Knife in the Water before striking out on his own.
