Show Preview: Caribou at Club Deville

After being threatened with a lawsuit by "Handsome Dick" Manitoba in 2004, Toronto native, London resident, and Ph.D. mathematician Daniel Snaith was forced to change his recording alias. What was once called Manitoba (not Handsome Dick) is now Caribou, and tonight, this electronic psychadelic dreamy pop outfit (a full band plays live) will be at Club Deville.

Snaith's latest album Andorra is maybe his best yet. Streams of orchestral pop closely rivaling that of 60s bands like The Zombies or The Mamas and The Papas make the album a bit more accessible than previous recordings, and yet, the tracks haven't lost their electronic, noisy eccentricities. While Snaith's cooing voice takes on a more central role than on previous albums, his magical musical arrangements continue to champion the direction and emotions of the work. Clearly, we're fans.

Caribou w/ Born Ruffians
Friday, October 19th
Club Deville [map]
Show at 10pm, $10 [Tickets]

We're hoping that all the recently expanded patio space at Club Deville will be a welcoming spot for the show. Appropriately opening are fellow Torontonians Born Ruffians, whose rowdy spirit (akin to Tokyo Police Club) should energize the audience. We're predicting a fantastic show and a lovely, brisk autumn evening.

Won't you join us?

This contest is now closed. Thanks for reading!

I wish I could go!!!!!!

Does anyone actually win tickets to these shows, or does Austinist merely reserve them for friends?

Actually, before I started writing for Austinist, I won some tickets from a giveaway and felt really cool when I showed up to Emo's and said, "I'm on the list."

Austinist isn't above anyone, and our friends have to pay just like anyone else. Fair n square.
