Figurines, Dappled Cities & Zykos @ Emo's Tonight

Denmark darling Figurines will be playing tonight at Emo's (in the lounge) in support of their most recent release, When the Deer Wore Blue. For those unaware, Figurines play a charmingly off-kilter form of retro pop, and their catalog is a must-have for fans of the European refiguring of American indie standards. That's great and all, but we're more excited to catch Dappled Cities, an Australian outfit that, for reasons unknown to us, haven't quite caught on with the mainstream US hype machines yet. Their music is punchy, angular and accentuated by falsetto vocals and Field Music-worthy time signatures. Fun fact: they're working on a 7" with friends Red Ryder, and they're covering "November Rain." Questionable choice: their video for "Fire Fire Fire" demonstrates our theory that the music video is all but obsolete. How does it help anyone to make the band a sideshow performance group to their own music? Regardless, the simple and lovely "Vision Bell" clip makes up for it. A little.
Figurines and Dappled Cities will be joined by local pop heartthrobs, Zykos. Follow the jump for a chance to win tickets and details on the show.
