For Real This Time: Alamo Drafthouse @ the Ritz Opens November 1st!!!

So, ever since we saw on the Alamo Drafthouse Blog that Tim League would be making an official announcement regarding the opening date of the new Downtown location sometime this week, we have been feverishly refreshing our browsers like a psychotic squirrel searching for a nut. Finally at 3:40AM this morning (Tim is crazy!), after suffering and circumnavigating a summer without our movie Mecca, it has been announced that the Alamo Ritz will officially open its doors to throngs of film fanatics on November 1st! That's only two weeks away, people!

As with all things Alamo, an event of this magnitude must be accompanied by a party, triple-feature style. Included in the opening tour de force will be the Japanese rubber-suit-monster flick Matango, the horrific story of ill-fated mushroom eaters on a nuclear wasteland island, accompanied by an extra special mushroom themed feast. Holy shitakes, it's gonna be crazy delicious!

Next in the line up is the new do-not-miss-it-unless-your-life-depends-on-it Coen Brothers film No Country For Old Men, which got some pretty sweet and apparently well deserved hype at Toronto and Cannes. Tim says that this is a free screening and that any empty seats will be available on a first-come-first-served basis that Thursday night, but who does he think he is kidding? You know this shindig is going to sell out in the first hour!

Rounding out the trio is a Super Secret Screening, but seeing as it will be the very first ever Terror Thursdays midnight movie at the new location, we will pretty much let it ride that this will be a winner.

Complete pricing information will available on the website on Friday, October 19th. Tickets for the opening night go on sale at 5:00pm Sunday, October 21st at the Ritz. Online sales will open at 6:00pm, but we aren't going to risk missing out on this landmark event, so we'll see you in line. We'll be the totally geeking out squealey ones.

Well, it is not necessarily that there will "never" be another Buffy sing-a-long, but just not any time soon. Sad face. Hopefully they will be able to get the licensing worked out.....Until then, we still have all of the other kick ass Henri-hosted sing-a-longs. Hopefully there will be a space to dance down front still.

I can't wait for this place to open back up, but to bad there can't ever be any more Buffy sing-a-longs.
