Austinist Show Preview: Melvins & Big Business at Emo's

The Melvins have been around for over two decades and have influenced plenty of hard-rock acts in that period, either directly, or indirectly. Comprised of (permanent members) Buzz Osbourne and Dale Crover, the band recently added Coady Willis and Jared Warren to the line-up. The newer members will be on double duty tonight as they both make up 100% of the opening act Big Business. The Melvins’ brand of metal -- a droning sludge-fest of thunderous heaviness spans more than 20 studio records, the last being 2006’s (A) Senile Animal. Big fans like Kurt Cobain (Crover played drums on Nirvana demos dating back to 1988 and also eventually hooked the band up with Dave Grohl!) and Tool have played their part in occasionally lifting the band into mainstream radars, but largely, the Melvins remain somewhat of a cult act.

The Melvins released the Making Love Demos (from the late '80s) on October 9th on Bifocal Media. No cover of KISS’ “Making Love” though!
