After all this time, is really necessary to explicitly label ANY mdahmus comment "crackpot".

Well that was boring. I get that they wanted to get a girl that looked like Sissy in Urban Cowboy, but she talked like a Californian. What a shame that PETA couldn't get a nice Texas girl with a good drawl.

My own crackpot theory is that it's easier to be in shape if you eat at least a little meat. Of course most of us go way too far the other way, but I've known an awful lot of vegetarians who were on the chunky side (because they went way overboard on cheese and didn't seem to have the energy to really exercise).

Well, I said it was crackpot.

I think PETA targets Texas more than anyone. I grew up in Amarillo with PETA sponsored billboards that read "Jesus was a vegetarian" and watched them protest animal cruelty outside of Rodeos. I know they are doing what they think is right, but the beef industry paid for my upbringing and my college and it supports thousands of workers in Texas. I have to thank the beef industry for my quality of life and for the opportunities I had growing up. So, sorry PETA, I think I'm going to keep eating meat. On top of that, I'm not overweight, but I do know overweight vegetarians. Go figure.

Ooo, big mistake.
PETA should have hired a local firm instead of some out-of-state yahoos for these ads.
Everyone in Texas knows, if you really want to get our governor's attention, dump Alicia Silverstone and the Lettuce Lady and send him ads with Joaquin Phoenix and a Plantain Guy.

while i respect the the ideals of vegetarianism, i sometimes feel offended (or targeted) by the moral high-groundedness of vegetarians and vegans (since i'm one of those folks who feel unwell when i cut out fish/poultry entirely).

just in case there are like mindeds -- let us feel slightly vindicated, together:

also...argh...young attractive women should eat lettuce so they can be skinny? i dunno...not much of a progressive campaign to my mind. :(

Eating meat doesn't cause obesity. Eating too much meat does, just as eating too much lentils, nuts, wheat glutin or tofu.

You can take my cheesesteak from my cold, dead, hands. And if that's earlier than it would be were we talking about a veggie wrap, so be it.
