Austinist Show Preview: Til We're Blue Or Destroy & She, Sir at Beauty Bar
The Beauty Bar presents a quality bill of local pop-rock this Thursday night. Til We’re Blue Or Destroy, comprised of a number of multi-talented musicians, have recently wrapped up work on their debut record, This Train -- due later this year. The band’s delightful ditties fluctuate between catchy dance-pop and melodic guitar-rock, and that’s just fine with us!
She, Sir support with an array of guitar laced soundscapes complemented perfectly by soft, distant vocals. Russell Karloff reports that Low Line Caller’s drummer, Josh Rosenblatt will join them on drums for this gig, while also commenting that every member in the band has beards. Just worth noting. Karloff and (the other) founding member M. Grusha met in college (at Iowa State University) and both have extensive backgrounds in musical compositions. The intricate arrangements on their EP’s tracks clearly bears the fruit -- Who Can’t Say Yes is available for purchase via CD Baby. Snag it for your trip into dream-pop bliss. A full-length, appropriately titled Go Guitars is in the works as well.

Constructive criticism for Adi: Use descriptors for bands other than "pop". It seems like a disproportionate number of your reviews/previews describe bands as "pop rock", "dance pop", "indie pop", "alt-pop", etc. Most of the time, I think you're trying to convey that the music has catchy melodies but that doesn't necessarily make a band "pop".
All I'm saying is that a lot of the writeups seem formulaic because of these almost ubiquitous descriptions of at least one band per review/preview. Your work would be much more compelling with less generic terms, that's all.
Room 710 frowns upon the 'pop' descriptor.
