Austinist Giveaway: Happy Days

As we mentioned in last week's TWIT, Capital T Theatre Company is currently running Samuel Beckett's "most cheerful" play, Happy Days, at Hyde Park Theatre. In case you're not familiar with this particular Beckett work, it's about "a middle-aged woman, Winnie, [who] finds herself increasingly submerged in a mound of earth. An incurable optimist, she uselessly follows the daily routine of her life. Over the passage of time, her few possessions gradually dwindle, and her only human companion becomes more distant." Then some Ewoks show up, sing a cheery tune, and everyone goes home drunk and happy.

Or not, but we always enjoy a good production of a Beckett play, and with Katherine Catmull in the role of Winnie, this should prove to be just that. Admittedly it's a strange work—is there a Beckett work that's not strange? “Strangeness,” Beckett informs us, “was the necessary condition of the play—of Winnie’s plight in the play” (Wikipedia). Works for us, Sam.

If you'd like to check out Happy Days this weekend, enter to win two tickets to the performance of your choice!

Congratulations to our winner!

If you couldn't dig yourself out fast enough, pick up tickets on your own dime ($15-25 sliding scale) right here.
