Giant Homemade Instruments Invade Travis County Expo Center

You may not have noticed, but Maker Faire is just around the corner—less than two weeks away on October 20-21. Among all of the homemade, groovylicious goods, we’re especially excited about the Zimbabwean-style Rattletree Marimba band—playing their gigantic instruments, which are hand-crafted by a band member.

We first saw the group while hauling our sweaty, sticky selves home from ACL. Right there on Barton Springs Road, Rattletree was infusing the Heineken-sponsored, AT&T corporate-ness of ACL with a bit of ye olde Hippie Austin drum-circle / street theater vibe. That made us happy.

While we can’t promise the same alterna-moment we witnessed, who knows what you might see. If you’re into the whole DIY thing as much as we are, it’ll be a transformative experience. Catch them post-Maker Faire at Third Sunday at Barton Springs Pool.

I was wondering who those guys were after Friday's ACL Fest! They were absolutely magical to listen to as I ate my deliciously cool snowcone (from Sno-Beach, no less, who I'd thought were gone)!

I was planning to go to Maker-Faire too! Yay! :D
