My Education In Store, EP Release @ End of An Ear Saturday
If you've ever been to the Texas/Oklahoma State Fair, you know that area between the ferris wheel and the Dizzy Dragons: it begs for rock. It glistens, yearns, begs for an instrumental post-rock 5-piece to grace it with versions of "Spiegel im Spiegel" (Arvo Part), long-form pieces composed for F.W. Murnau's classic 1927 silent film Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans, and the other, more traditional state fair-ready jams: you know, the kind with vibraphone and viola.
Austin's My Education was kind enough to sit down with us earlier this year to talk about the silent film soundtrack circuit, their album-in-the-works (tentatively titled Bad Vibrations or Sorry I'm Sorry, depending on who you ask), and touring cycles. While we wait patiently for the full-length, we can get a taste of things to come with their split with Dalek, and the official release is finally here. The band will be performing an in-store (we're anxious to see how they all fit into the corner) at End of an Ear on S. 1st street this weekend, and you can buy a copy of the split EP with Dalek, a shared effort to reinvent Part's "Spiegel im Spiegel".
My Education recently wrapped an intensive tour of the midwest, playing several shows with another post-rock powerhouse band called Maserati. Their full-length is due "soon," and will no doubt feature the atmospheric, borderline psychedelic songs we've come to love. Take a break from the cocaine-soaked dance scene this Saturday and head over to End of an Ear -- your eardrums will thank you (provided you bring plugs).
