Local Couple Fools for Margaritas

Sad, but true: Sunday night, after having some drinks on Sixth Street, a young couple drove to Hutto and left their babies in the car as they indulged in margaritas at a restaurant. The children, a one-year-old boy and five-month-old girl, were locked in a Ford Expedition for half an hour on that warm evening before the cops were called. Luckily some people in the parking lot had noticed the small children in the vehicle and called it in. The babies were found drenched in sweat, but the EMS declared them to be fine.

The mother, Beatriz Pedroza, admitted to the police that she had driven drunk to Hutto from downtown Austin, saying "she did not regret driving from Austin to Hutto drunk, leaving her children in the car to go inside the restaurant to have a margarita."

The parents have been charged with one count of child endangerment/abandonment each. The father, Miguel Lopez, has been released on bond already, but the mother is still being held at Williamson County Jail.
