KLRU Scores Big in 5th Annual Lone Star Emmy Nominations
Austin's PBS affiliate KLRU-TV received a record 21 Emmy nominations from the Lone Star Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The awards dinner will take place in Dallas on Saturday, October 27th.
The complete list of KLRU honors includes:
- KLRU producer Elena Ramirez (Public/Current/Community Affairs Feature Segment category), for her story "Getting By in Austin." This documentary, which aired on Austin Now, focused on the difficulty of families making minimum wage in Austin.
- The Biscuit Brothers (Children/Youth category), for the "Folk Songs" episode.
- KLRU's newest series Docubloggers, (Magazine Program-Program/Special category), for the series pilot episode.
- Downtown (Magazine Program-Program/Special category). Segments of the series were also nominated for separate Emmys, including "Slam Poets" (Arts/Entertainment-Program Feature/Segment), "The Magi's Gift's Before He Was O. Henry" (Texas Heritage-Program Feature/Segment), "Hip-Hop" (Magazine Program-Feature/Segment), and "Experience Caring" (Public/Current/Community Affairs-Feature/Segment).
- State of Tomorrow (Magazine Program-Program/Special and Graphic Arts-Graphics-News categories), a series about the research taking place at Texas universities. Segments of the series were also nominated for Emmys including "Exploring New Worlds" (Arts/Entertainment-Program Feature/Segment), "Skeletons in the Closet" (Documentary-Topical), and "Disaster Response" (Public/Current/Community Affairs-Program/Special).
- Special Session (Politics/Government-News Series category). Segments of the series were also nominated for Emmys including "The Freshman Class" (Politics/Government-Program/Segment), and "Reel Texas" (Texas Heritage-News Single Story/Series).
- Texas Parks and Wildlife (Magazine Program). Segments of the series were also nominated for Emmys including: "Texas the State of Springs" (Documentary Topical), "The Flying Photographers" (Magazine Program-Feature/Segment), and "Made in Texas" (Editor-Program).
- Dutch Rall (Photographer-Program), for his work on Wine Roads of Texas.
