I saw on Fox 7 that some guy from the sheriff's department was telling residents to flag down a passing officer or go to their local fire station in case of emergency. Back in the day, we'd call the police or fire department or hospital directly if we had an emergency. Why aren't they telling people to do that now?

If you will read the article, you will learn that they are.

I know that because I read it in the story, but they didn't say that on the news and not everyone has internet access.
