Breaking News: Jessica Birge's Body Found

Austinist is sad to report that the body of 25-year-old Jessica Birge, the young woman who went missing last month in South Texas, has been found in the Guadalupe River.

Birge was last seen on the night of August 11 in New Braunfels, where she'd been tubing the Comal with friends. A massive search was launched once it became apparent that Birge had gone missing; countless bulletins were posted and re-posted on Myspace, in the hopes that someone—anyone—might have had helpful information.

Recently, a helicopter search party came across something suspicious in the Guadalupe River. Dive teams later discovered that it was her car. Birge's body was still inside.

By all accounts, Birge was an extraordinary person. One anonymous commenter described her as "such a sweet and beautiful girl," another that she was "nothing shy of inspirational." Our thoughts go out to her friends and family in this difficult time.
