st vincent fucking blew me away at the mohawk last nite. i liked her music too.
THE MOST overrated Texas musician ever.
More overrated than SRV? Noway.
Okay. That. Is. It.
Can not one musician get mentioned on this blog without some Haterade-guzzler popping in to tell us how horribly overrated and not deserving of their success that artist is? Even when, almost invariably, said artist hasn't even been around for more then two years and can't possibly be the most anything?
Not saying you have to like everybody mentioned on the Austinist, but still, this is bull. If you don't like someone, fine, feel free to say so, but for the love of all that's good and holy don't go spouting all this way overdramatic ridiculousness about how overhyped every single up and comer is. Yeesh.
Oh, yeah, St. Vincent. Um, I thought she played a great show, both at the festival and at the Mohawk, and is quite lovely.
wrong. she's truly overhyped, overrated, and you are a sucker for buying into the "cute chick can play" phenomenon. not hating. just pointing out what's obvious to anyone outside of texas. it's called having standards
I listened to her on myspace, and I can see how someone that's into Portished or Tori Amos would like her, but it's just too numb for me.
Maybe if you featured more bands with more diverse talents and sounds people wouldn't feel the need to complain.
Hmmm, #2, have you ever been to a Bob Schneider show? or...ummm...Los Lonely Boys gig? your comment is probably THE MOST under-researched comment...ever.
Well #2 & #5 & #6, if you think she sucks, then dont click on this link. If you click it and watch it, you will feel like an idiot. And you don't want that. And you dont want anyone else to know that you kind of like it. So dont click it. Stay numb.

I'd hit that...
#6 here again, #8. I Dig A Pony was a great song when the Beatles did it. It sounds nothing like what I heard on myspace. Namely, the lyrics were interesting. The guitar solo wasn't so hot as it was annoying. I'm not saying women can't play music. All I am saying is that I haven't enjoyed the minuscule bit that I've heard of this particular woman's music.
did anyone see the ufo/ hot air balloons flying overhead during arcade fire and muse? what was up with that?
"Maybe if you featured more bands with more diverse talents and sounds people wouldn't feel the need to complain."
Or just more bands. This woman got at least two ACL week write ups on Austinist and the best thing anyone can say about her is that she's beautiful. And oh yeah, her music's ok too.
Excuse me, anyone not associated with the website. i.e.: "I'd hit that..."
I like her recent album a lot, but her show at ACL was terrible -- she couldn't figure out how to get her tracks layered correctly. She would have have been well served by having a backing band.
i saw some hot air balloon thingys during dylan. looked cool, but strange. i couldn't help but think of all the fires that those things must've started in westlake.
