ACL Afterparties-Hot Freaks!

1hot.jpgHot Freaks! is a loose affiliation--a cabal, if you will--of international music and culture bloggers, including Dallas' Gorilla Vs. Bear, New York's brooklynvegan, and Toronto's Chromewaves, who have banded together Voltron-style to wreak cross-promotional havoc on the Western blogosphere. Masterminded by Austin promoter John Mascarenhas, Hot Freaks! has put together a lovely set of after-parties for those of us who won't be snarled in post-ACL parking-lot quagmires until midnight.

Both events are looking really tempting, would you like to go? Fill out the form and take a chance on a VIP spot for one of the nights, with a guest of your choosing. No lines. For serious.

Follow the jump for a quick conversation we had with Chris Cantalini, the curator of Gorilla vs. Bear.

1chris.jpgWe recently had a chance to chat with Chris Cantalini, aka Gorilla Vs. Bear, about HF!'s origins. Read and learn:

Whose idea was it to band together?

The idea came from Austin's own John Mascarenhas. He approached a few of his favorite blogs initially, and it's grown from there to include the New York and French blogs.

How did everyone meet initially? Is there a "ringleader"?

John is pretty much the "ringleader," but most of the bloggers already knew each other and liked the idea of banding together to throw events with bands we all love.

Do you promote events outside of Austin? Any plans to do so?

Yeah! The tentative plan is to take it bi-coastal and then international. But my ringleader won't let me talk about any of that right now.

Is blogging/music advocacy a workable career move these days, or is it mostly for kicks? For the time you have to spend on it, it would seem to be a full-time job.

No one is going to become a millionaire or anything, but Brooklyn Vegan is probably a hundred-thousandaire. Most of us just do it for fun. The kid from You Ain't No Picasso does it to get girls.

Who's going to blow up in 2008?

Crazy Sexy Rainbow.
