Gingerman?! That place is what makes Austin great. And the fact that more 300-500k overpriced condos are going into to replace it is sick.
At least Alamo found a new place downtown, I hope Gingerman does as well.
Great strategy, build condos and take away everyhitng people move here for. Brilliant! Bring on the condo's, remember, chains, I mean change is good!
dog and duck is also being forced out for more condos/hotel.
hooray!!!
Oh shit. There goes the horseshoe lounge.
Hmmm... Waterloo closed six years ago, supposedly so condos could be built. Then 9/11 happened and through the economy for a little loop.
April 2009 is going to roll around and Gables will be looking for a tenant to pay rent on the building while waiting out the coming real estate bust. That or they'll just flatten the block and put in a pay parking lot.
dog and duck too?!?!?!? I've never been an Austin is Dying alarmist, but if those two places can't relocate somewhere where they keep their spacious digs, I'm going to be pretty pissed off.
NOW you care about the condos?
Told you so.
any proof to dog n duck closing? I can't find anything substantial about it.
that said, where the hell are all these apparently wealthy condo buyers going to come from? Someone is making a ton of money off this and is going to skip town when these monstrosities sit empty.
Well, I've been concerned for a while, but nothing has whipped me into alarmist hyperbole mode like many austinist readers.
Monorail...
Monorail!
MONORAIL!!!!!!
You know what's going to be great? When downtown Austin gets a tornado and all those people high up in their condos can't get to the first floor and are killed by falling glass and debris.
That'll be a good news day.
yep, only on austinist. Thanks, 11!
It's true! Rememeber that tornado through downtown Fort Worth a few years ago? People for sure thought their offices were safe and the glass was safety rated to withstand gale force winds, and maybe they were, but that tornado still tore up their downtown. And that was a small one. Imagine what'll happen if all these condos get built and a Jarrell size tornado sweeps through downtown.
Oh, btw, that was my patrick-like attempt at sarcasm. 11, not 13.
there is no proof about dog and duck, it's jsut the word of everybody who works there, and they will openly talk to you if you ask them about it.
they are trying to relocate, just looking for a new location.
