Quantcast

At B-Scene, Dancing Cheek to Cheek

In yesterday's Austin Arts blog, Jeanne Claire van Ryzin posted about a B-Scene party-goer who took the Blanton's new performance/video exhibit, Mike’s World, a little too seriously:

Convinced that our computer age means more lounging around in a private utopia, ‘Mike’ conceives of a multimedia information kiosk that admonishes everyone to ‘Take Off Your Pants!’ After all, you’ll be doing nothing but sitting around in your underwear at the computer anyway.

And so to augment the installation in ‘Mike’s World,’ yellow lapel buttons emblazoned with ‘Take Off Your Pants’ are given away to exhibit viewers. But Friday night, sources say, one man decided that it would be good to actually take off his pants at the B Scene.

Whether motivated by the festive party atmosphere or because he just had to make an artistic statement, the fellow dropped trou in the middle of the monthly museum mixer. "Yup, someone did it during B scene," wrote "Jason" in a Myspace bulletin published by the Blanton. "Fully butt naked, not even boxer shorts!"

Unfortunately, the gentleman was quickly escorted out by a policewoman before any incriminating photos could be taken.

sometimes it takes me a full day to get your word plays, allen, but when i finally get them...the moment's always so golden.

I really hope he gets nothing more than an admonishment. Lewd behavior and indecency charges can be serious and follow you around for the rest of your life.

Is anyone going to put out the irony of a guy being kicked out of an art museum for doing what the art told him to?
