Win an iPhone, ACL 3-Day Tickets, and more at Local Music is Sexy IV

In less than two days, we'll be hosting our big annual pre-ACL party, Local Music is Sexy IV,

Thursday night's soiree will feature Austinites The Lemurs, The Corto Maltese, and Brazos on the outside main stage, with DJs Car Stereo (Wars), Ceeplus Bad Knives*, and Markus with a K supplying dance-party jams inside alongside Magic Surprise. We're also thrilled to be bringing in Seattle indie rockers Say Hi To Your Mom* as our headliners.

What's more, we have a few special items that we'll be giving away throughout the evening, including:

  • An Apple iPhone, courtesy of the good folks at ON Networks. Show up early to register!
  • A 3-day ACL Festival pass, thanks to Rio Grande, and
  • 10 nifty Austinist tote bags, stuffed to the gills with awesome swag—Make and Craft magazines, goodies, and more—for the first ten people to show up once doors open at 9pm

Unfortunately, TABC regulations prevent us from mentioning that a certain beer company will be hosting a special sampling between 10-11pm. So, you know, we wont.

As always, this party is absolutely free. It's our way of saying "thanks!" to you sexy people.

The Lineup

Local Music is Sexy IV is sponsored by: ON Networks, Maker Faire, Transmission Entertainment, The Onion, Rio Grande, Homeslice Pizza, FactoryPeople, Izze, Sweet Leaf Tea, Platypus Promotions, StrataTX, Frank151, and Mischief & Trouble.

What's the deal with the 21+? Come on, that's just lazy. Check ID's and put X's on our hands.

When I was an incoming freshman at orientation, I went downtown with some pals, and it was one of the more depressing experiences of my life. Live music everywhere, so little access.

Sorry, young'uns. One day you'll understand.

But for all you old(er) people, this party gets better every year, so YOU SHOULD COME.

why is a "LOCAL MUSIC is sexy" show being headlined by a band from seattle?

who cares, they're awesome.

I would imagine a lot of local bands care.

21+ darrniitt

ugh only 1 more month

TOTE BAGS?

Holy moley, I'm on it!

well, when they first posted this a few days ago it said "To spice things up, we're also flying in Seattle indie rockers Say Hi To Your Mom to headline, and welcoming our favorite Houston DJ, Ceeplus Bad Knives."

so i guess it's not local to spice things up.

With a band from Seattle headlining, is local music maybe not sexy enough? Has our local music become Britney?

Would you guys please re-name this "Seattle Music Is Sexy" so I don't have to sue you for false advertising?

Live Music Is Still Dangerous at Room 710. Adjacent to Austin's very own Crack Alley, Room 710 can make your stomach squirm, ears ring, and head ache with the following shows designed to entice your vices. Sorry, underagers, but according to the State of Texas, while you may serve a war in Iraq, you cannot get blitzed downtown (unless you're with your Mom, Dad, or Of-Age Spouse, who then are officially in charge of your actions instead of the bar you're trying to get into):

Wed 9.12: Celebrate Rosh Hashana country style w/ Bourbon Crow (who is part Wednesday 13, a dreamboat), Sabbath Crow, and 10 Foot Rooster. Prison Songs & Whiskey Songs play happy hour.

Thu 9.13: Continue the celebration of 5768 w/ punk rock maniacs Brewtality Inc., the return of Knocked Out Stiffs, Capital Scam, and Laughing Dogs.

Fri 9.14: Join Skeleton Witch, Maelstrom, Mala Suerte, and The Roller for Headbanging 101.

Sat 9.15: Firekills, Bless the Broken, Goodnight Goddess, and Heymaker 3 will show you that not seeing the White Stripes is actually quite affordable and possibly as entertaining.

By now, you're thinking, "How come Room 710 isn't content with the Ist List to remind me that they are a local, live music venue?" The answer is simple: As long as the one show Local Music is Sexy IV gets more press on a blog over two weeks than we do as a registered user of a blog we have been contacting for the past 6 months, then Room 710 is forced to sabotage certain articles to at least suggest to the fine folks visiting Austin this weekend that there are indeed other things to do in town. Heck, there are even other bars to visit on the same street as the Austinist faves. So any article that involves the words Local Live Music and Sexy, and doesn't mention us, is automatically considered ripe for nitpicking.

Room 710 is my hero.
