Austinist Show Giveaway: The Sound And The Jury Contest Finale at Antone's

It’s only fair that talented acts get an additional chance to be added to the killer line-up for this year’s Austin City Limits Music Festival. The Dell Lounge has presented one such contest that has captured the imagination of local artists and fans alike. Whittling down to 20 acts from hundreds of original submissions was the first step; The Sound And The Jury Contest has now arrived at its final five competitors, all thanks to the magic of online voting. The winner will have their day in the sun -- a time-slot on the Dell Stage at the festival, while they will also be added to the bill at The Dell Lounge & Hot Freaks! “after-hours” parties at The Mohawk and Club DeVille. Pretty sweet deal, we think.

So, a drum roll please! The final five consists of three bands from Austin, one from Abilene, with the only non-Texan act, Blue Flashing Light hailing from Athens, Georgia. And you will have the opportunity to witness the five in all their glory (for free!) and vote for your pick at Antone’s this Wednesday. Abilene’s Homer Hiccolm & The Rocketboys provide introspective rock to go up against nelo’s beautiful pop compositions and Quiet Company’s magical synth and piano driven harmonies. Our vote will likely be for the multi-instrumental melodies of Golden Bear, and not just because Chris “Grizzle” Gregory is a ROCK STAR. The band’s popularity has been gaining momentum with the release of two wonderful albums (Golden Bear and To The Farthest Star) on C-Side Records. Golden Bear has struck a positive chord with pop fans locally and nationwide, and to twist your arm just a wee bit to maybe, possibly vote for them, they have a spot for you on the guest list (courtesy of OurStage) for the Paste Magazine After Hours Party on Saturday -- Enter below to win!
