The Laurie Show

With the exception of unmerciful allergy issues (sniff), I've been having a great time rounding up ideas to inspire this evening's escapades on The Laurie Show on KUT 90.5. Just give me several boxes of tissue - with aloe, please - and I'll be fine, as long as I remember to rehydrate.

Fun and unique good times to be had this weekend, peeps! This includes record releases, benefit shows, prom dates, and an ol' timey-like wild west gig that will bring Cash and Carter lookalikes (and sound-alikes) out of the woodwork.

Just go with me on this, kid...

Early show alert! Do not forget to get out of the office on time for the Blanton Museum of Art's fabulous B Scene, tonight from 6 to 11. Live music will be provided by Manager's Choice, and DJ Brandon Gonzalez spins for your enjoyment. The B Scene is always great fun, so make it out if you can.

Lots of live music for your pleasure this evening at the Scoot Inn on E. 4th, featuring K Lee and The Koreans, with The Deadly Companions, iKiLLCaRS, and the Apeshits getting the evening started. Yellow Fever is one of the bands performing on the outside stage. Over at the Beauty Bar on E. 7th, Horse + Donkey and Diagnals bring the live music to you, and in the Emo's lounge, catch the Invincible Czars at their show.

Saturday is bustling with a bunch of things you won't want to miss. For starters, have your dresses and tuxes ready for the Car Stereo Wars Prom Night bonanza at the Beauty Bar, featuring the music of 'Til We're Blue Or Destroy and DJ sets by guest spinner Ill Collins. I can feel it coming in the air tonight...

At the Scoot Inn, it'll be a wild and crazy Wild West Medicine Show, hosted by Mr. Jerm Pollet. Shenanigans and pie fights everywhere, I tell you, featuring entertainment by the Reverend Ted Hadj and the McMercy Family band, Shotgun Party, and what will surely be an interesting Johnny Cash and June Carter lookalike contest. Yes, bring yourself dressed up, with your guitar, and step up to the mic to do your best impression. Oh - don't forget there'll be a kissing booth for some smoochie boochies on the side. Whoop it up, fella.

On Emo's inside stage, My Education will celebrate the release of their latest work, Dalek. (Many, many sincere apologies to My Education for my geeking out over the title - look it up and find out why it caught my eye.) Maserati headlines this show, and Red X Red M gets the evening started.

There's another great show to be found over at Stubb's tomorrow on Red River. Mice & Rifles and Slow Train open for The Drams. Brownout is having their CD release party at the Mohawk. And there's a special benefit performance at Beerland to raise money for longtime Parlor barkeep Luke Trimmer to help cover medical costs resulting from a heart attack he had recently. Live music brought to you by Black Panda and Teeners, and remember that you can make donations at both the North Loop and Guadalupe Parlor locations.

I also want to remind you of a show happening Tuesday night in Emo's lounge - Ringo Deathstarr and The Red Hearts are openers for Dark Meat, which features former members of Neutral Milk Hotel and Olivia Tremor Control. On the inside Emo's stage the same evening will be the Subhumans, with Krum Bums, Witch Hunt, and Sacred Shock starting the night. On Wednesday at Beerland, check out a great double hitter with The Urgencies and Tokyo Nites.

So much music, so few brain cells left, but that's just me. You know the drill: 11 p.m. to 3 in the frickin' morning, 90.5 on the FM dial. Have me on in the car as you're driving around town on your way to gigs, and on the way home. If you're surfing the web, time to stream. Meanwhile, I'll stock up on the allergy drugs so I don't sound like a loogie machine.

And, in the words of our dear RoboCop, thank you for your cooperation.
