It's often said that radio people don't really get a vacation. It's true, peeps. While I'm wrapping up as much as I can in the hopes of actually enjoying some the extended Labor Day weekend, the music doesn't stop on The Laurie Show on KUT. No sir, no ma'm.

There are many shows to fill your weekend plans. This little column of mine doesn't even begin to cover the tip of the iceberg. Or...ice chest, if you will. Grab a cold beverage and make sure you see at least a couple of these great gigs, if you're in town.

Tonight, friends, you just may have a Psychedelic Situation on your hands. Dynamic duo Rachel Goldstar and Carlos Jackson will be your DJ extraordinaires this evening at Beerland, providing lots of fantastic psychedelic vibes at the turntables. Live music provided by Ringo Deathstarr (still one of my most favorite band names of all time in the history of everything), and The Strange Attractors. See it. Hear it. Live it.

Emo's provides a huge variety of choices for your musical pleasure this evening. Taking over the lounge will be Golden Bear, having a show with The Felice Brothers, from NYC. The Mercers and Mice and Rifles will get the night started. Over on the inside stage, catch The Lemurs headlining, Ume and The Laughing. On the outside stage, there will definitely be a great show by The Black Angels, with Strange Boys and Cavedweller also on the list. Fantastic music to be heard all over Emo's, so take advantage of it.

The Rescue Mission is headlining the evening at Elysium on Red River, featuring Analog Love and Black Math Experiment sharing the bill. Over at the Mohawk, there'll be one hell of a gig with the White Ghost Shivers, featuring the Dewayn Brothers and Shotgun Party. Nothing like a little madness to stir up your three-day weekend.

On Saturday, I'd like to wish you luck, because you'll have a difficult time trying to catch so many bands all over the place. But, as I always say, what a wonderful dilemma to have! Get yourself an early start and head out to the Scoot Inn, 1308 E. 4th St., for Austin Sound's Austin Sound Off Festival. Starting at 3 p.m., both inside the establishment and outside, you'll find a combined 13-band line-up, all local talent and all impressive. Check Austin Sound's website for details and the list of bands.

Yet another grand feast for the ears can be found later Saturday evening at Almost There Records' 3rd anniversary party on the Stubb's indoor venue. Twelve Austin bands scheduled for your enjoyment, and Almost There compilation CDs will be available as well.

The Wailing Walls and The Casting Couch will grace the stage at Hole in the Wall tomorrow; Fiction and Cue will have a show over at Lambert's, 401 W. 2nd St.; and I'd like to send a shout-out to Maneja Beto, who'll be performing Saturday at Bat Fest 2007 at around 9:30 p.m. To the bat stage, Robin!

Over at the Mohawk on Saturday, a grand show with a grand price: FREE. Yes, the Transmission Launch Party is free, free, free, featuring performances by I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness, The Golden Boys, Aaron Blount, and New Roman Times. DJ Ian Orth of Learning Secrets will host a special DJ set with Brazilian Girls in the house. Fantastico!

Ah, the Beauty Bar loves the hot tub, so they've put together a special Hot Tub and BBQ Bonanza for Sunday, featuring live music by Visitors, Ume, and Gulf of Mexico. Over at the Parish on 6th St., there's another tasty free show to be enjoyed with Centro-matic, Grand Champeen, and Edward Burch getting things started.

And, just when you think you're on music overload, make way for some Monday RAWK over at Room 710 on Red River, with The Applicators, The Dollyrots, and The Sweethearts. Yesss!

Meanwhile, there is music to be gathered for tonight! I'll be up late, so you should stay up with me: 11 p.m. to 3 in the frickin' morning. If you prefer, hop on the InterWeb. Have a fabulous Labor Day weekend, kids, and remember the words of our pal RoboCop: Thank you for your cooperation.
