2007 Texas Filmmakers' Production Fund Recipients Announced
Go Texas Film! After a lengthy submission and selection process, the Austin Film Society has announced the recipients of the 2007 Texas Filmmakers' Production Fund.
After receiving a whopping 218 applications (the most they've ever received), the AFS has awarded 21 Texas filmmakers $150,000 in cash and film stock (nearly double the amount of money awarded last year, and by far the most they've ever given away).
The biggest individual grant went to June Lee, an MFA graduate from the UT RTF Department, who received $20,000 toward the production of his debut narrative feature Starfish. Houston resident Laura Harrison also received a sizable grant, securing $15,000 for post-production on her documentary Ant (which also received a $15,000 production grant last year).
Sadly, our proposal for a feature-length erotic thriller titled "Suspicious Agenda" did not make the cut. But we're totally polishing our presentation for next year. If we could just get Richard Grieco on board...
Anyway--now in its 11th year, the Texas Filmmakers' Production Fund is a grant program for film and video artists in the state of Texas. Filmmakers who have lived in Texas for at least a year are eligible to apply. The program is funded through revenues from benefit screenings, private and corporate donations, and the Texas Commission on the Arts. This years' panelists included Sarah Price (American Movie, Summercamp!), James Fotopoulos (Migrating Forms, The Nest) and Rachel Rosen (director of programming for the Los Angeles Film Festival and Film Independent).

Sorry to hear your project didn't make the cut, Math. My own proposal, "Man Masturbating to 'Flight Of The Bumblebee' " also got a thumbs-down.
