Fun Fun Fun Fest Looks Hot Hot Hot

What a difference a year makes—certainly in the case of this fledgling music festival.

Last December's inaugural Fun Fun Fun Fest featured over two dozen bands and DJs, and showcased a good variety of indie rock, punk, and electronic music.

This year, they've grown even bigger, better, and bolder: the second annual installment will span two days and has been pushed ahead by a month, to November 3rd and 4th. Staying true to their Red River roots—the festival's main organizer, Graham Williams, booked at Emo's for ages, and now co-owns Transmission Entertainment—Fun Fun Fun will again take place at Waterloo Park. Thanks to the earlier date, this year's festival shouldn't suffer from last year's bitter cold front; more importantly, it won't be ridiculously hot like September's ACL Fest.

Some of the Austinist staff's favorites among this action-packed lineup include Girl Talk, Cat Power, Of Montreal, and, in an impressive booking coup, Seattle garage rockers Murder City Devils, long believed to have disbanded and whose last studio effort came out over six years ago. With the festival growing to rival Chicago's Pitchfork Music Fest and drawing more and more out-of-town attendees, we're also pleased to see that there's still a strong contingent of Austin artists, like Okkervil River, Iron Age, and DJ Jester.

Part of the lineup was leaked by Pitchfork earlier this month, but we wanted to wait until the full lineup was released to give you the run-down.

Two-day festival passes are $54 and will go on sale through TicketWeb this Saturday at 11 a.m.

The full lineup is below; a tentative daily schedule appears after the jump.

this was announced a looooooooooooooooong time ago, guys. And not by Pitchfork. Pull your heads...

hopefully they will stagger the bands a little bit...the headliners for Day 1 are pretty tough to choose from.

  • guest

3 bands stand out here; Sick Of It All topping the list. Murder City Devils and Grand Buffet. I think I'll actually go this year.

  • guest

Guest 10, are you serious? I love sarcasm...but if you are serious, please take your medicine. for the love of god, that shit stopped at gish.

  • guest

Smashing Pumpkins will BLOW compared to that first day. Shit! I can't wait for this. Now if they could only get Dylan and Wilco and White Stripes and ACL would mean nothing.

  • guest

Honestly, I'd rather see the Smashing Pumpkins in Dallas on November 3.

and in November, it won't be guaranteed to be at least bone-melting hot (stupid stupid ACL). More winter festivals, please!

    Happy Birthday, LB!

  • guest

i'd think it's possible. they have been advertising 75 bands, so some more should be added.

  • guest

spoon is in texas that weekend too. any chance their name will be added after the ACL shows are done?

  • Elizabeth S.

    oh, awesomeness.

  • heyzeus

Wow. I mean, wow. And one day ACL passes are $80?
