ACL Fest Updates: Google Mashup, Contests, Eco-Chic

  • Austinite Bill Kilday has put together a pretty nifty ACL page that shows you which artists are playing on each stage throughout the weekend. What's more, he's conveniently provided YouTube clips and music videos for most of the artists. "Bill's Map" is a mashup of Google Maps, YouTube, and the Official ACL schedule. It's worth a look around, especially if you're curious about some of the lesser known acts playing the festival.
  • In an effort to promote their A-List photo gallery, the Statesman's running an online scavenger hunt contest, with one lucky winner scoring are pair of three-day festival passes. You'll have to jump through a few hoops--namely, surfing through ten of their most recent photo galleries and looking for "code words." Email the answers to austin360contests@statesman.com by September 9th. And folks: it would probably be uncool for you to anonymously leave the answers in a comment here. Seriously, guys, really uncool.
  • As expected, the latest batch of three-day passes that went on sale last week are now completely sold out. Craigslist scalpers are happy to offer them to you for anywhere from $200-$250. Single-day tickets for Friday and Sunday are still available at $80 apiece, fees included.
  • Only 20 groups are left in "The Sound and the Jury" contest, wherein one indie band will get the chance to play in front of thousands at this year's festival. Currently, two Austin groups--nelo music and Quiet Company--are leading the pack, but not by much. Cast your vote here.
  • This year's festival is the greenest yet--Ecorazzi has the full list of environmentally-friendly measures that event organizers are taking, such as using recycled toilet paper in portapotties, powering site generators with biodiesel fuel, and serving all food on biodegradable or compostable products.

Big kudos to the use of biodiesel-powered generators.
Good job Austin Biofuels!

What's the deal with the Sat night at Stubbs. I had heard that either Wilco or Dylan would be playing but yet no word from either camp. Stubbs still shows that day as being empty on their calendar.
