MisShapes Tonight at Beauty Bar

Chances are pretty good that you’ve heard of The MisShapes – New York's party-throwing trio and current It-kids.

Last fall, the New York Times wrote about “the phenomenon known as the MisShapes” and their 15 minutes of fame. They've been in countless pop culture magazines, most of which reference the one time that Madonna dropped in on their weekly residency at Don Hill’s in SoHo. They've been on ads for those Eastport backpacks that kids buy at Wal-Mart. Even the local media has caught wind of this.

These super scenesters are on the road promoting their new book, authored by 24-year-old MisShape and de facto ringmaster Geordon Nicol, and they’re going to be performing tonight at Beauty Bar.

From the publishers:

Misshapes is a collection of New York fashion portraits taken from 2001 to 2007. Established in 2001, Misshapes was an event created to bring the downtown New York music/art scene together. This extensive collection of portraits ranges from punk rockers to artists, downtown kids to musicians, DJs, and celebrities with each subject posed amidst the downtown New York's dense and riotous environment. Together they represent a singular document of the changing face of fashion over the last 5 years and a guide to the vanguard of contemporary style. The book features forewords from musician Jarvis Cocker, Sally Singer of Vogue, and writer Legs McNeil, along with photo contributions from Ryan McGinley, Karl Lagerfeld, Nick Zinner, Patrick McMullan and many others.

Some of those photos mentioned above are posted on their website, which parallel those taken by the hipster photogs at lastnightsparty (releasing their own book) and Austin’s own outwithme. The MisShapes are certainly not the first kids to mix music, fashion, and art (wasn’t that Andy Warhol's gang?), but it's hard to deny their influence on today's twenty-somethings.

If you plan on going, think about your look now, and head out early—it's going to be packed. And don’t think we’re not going to be there taking photos.

(vomiting noises)

I might have gone to this before all of austin knew about it. But I'm not a fan of waiting 15 minutes for a weak drink, surrounded by button-down young professional douchebags who think being in a certain bar makes you hip.

what great mixing! the rapture, back to back michael jackson, prince, outdated simian and oh and dance mstrkrft. the sheer imagination involved - what an event!

oh and to think that some vitalic would be played - stunned!

what's sad is that I ended up going here anyway, because I got wasted.

jesus.
