Farmer’s Market Roundup: This Week at the Markets
Anyone interested in learning about the farm bill, buying some sustainable grass-fed beef and fresh local eggs and long beans, or just finding somewhere nice to walk around with a fair-trade, locally-roasted coffee should consider heading to one of Austin’s farmers markets this Saturday.
Figs, apples, pears, purple long beans, green beans, tomatoes, peppers, squash blossoms, greens, basil, garlic, shallots, onions, and summer squash are among the fresh seasonal picks available at the markets this week. Meats, eggs, and dairy options as well as prepared foods like pasta and hummus also abound.
For those who would rather their organic produce just showed up on the doorstep, locally-owned Greenling Organic Delivery offers a solution.
Another option - purchase a share of community-supported agriculture programs run by local farms like Scott Arbor or Green Gate Farms. Joining a CSA usually means fresh local produce on a weekly or bi-weekly basis as long as the season runs for each particular farm.
Visiting local markets or joining a CSA creates opportunities to discover seasonal central Texas ingredients in a way that a trip to HEB #591 probably won’t.

Isn't the Austin Farmer's Market down Burnet by Dog Almighty?
If there is one there, I don't think it's the Austin Farmer's Market, at least not in my experience. Maybe it is this one?
Burnet Farmers' Market
9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
211 East Jackson Street
Nope. It's on Burnet Road behind the Brentwood Tavern and Dog Almighty. It's open every day and it's got a huge archway you drive through to park in the back that has AUSTIN FARMER'S MARKET written on it if I'm not mistaken.
I think that one, although it has the Austin Farmers Market sign, is called "Austin's Historic Farmer's Market" now. I know it's not part of the official "Austin Farmers' Market."
That doesn't mean it isn't a farmers market in Austin, though.

You left out the oldest farmers' market: South Austin Farmers' Market, Saturdays in the parking lot of El Gallo on South Congress, from 9 to 1; all organic. This Saturday there will be cucumbers. pears, red or green okra, onions, bunch basils, peppers, figs, eggs, fresh baked breads, canned goods, pestos, herb plants and
fertilizer.
Really? Fertilizer?
Yes; it's homemade and organic and it really works.
Yeah, that's the one - the Austin's Historic Farmer's Market. They get a ton of traffic on the weekends. I'm surprised you didn't cover it.
