Have you ever wanted to see a group of people launch themselves off of a pier 30 foot above Lady Bird Lake? If you answered yes, then you're in luck. Red Bull is bringing Flugtag back to Austin this Saturday night. Enjoy yourself on Auditorium Shores as you watch some of the bravest and/or craziest people in town show off what they've been crafting for months. The evening will also include a visit from the Red Bull Air Force elite skydiving team and a musical performance by local artists The Jungle Rockers.
A contest of skill, showmanship, and creativity will set these teams against each other in a nighttime battle royale. Flugtag, meaning flying day in German, is a human-powered flying competition. Contestant teams must impress with both distance and creativity in their attempt to fly their craft off of the 30 foot high pier. Teams have been hard at work and will be attempting to fly breakfast tacos, giant roaches, skillets, box wine, and many other original crafts.
Flugtag last visited town in 2003, with Austin based Pop & Fizz taking first place. With a majority of Austin based teams in this year's event we're sure to have a hometown team take home the gold again this year. We'll be sharing a few profiles of some local teams over the next few days leading up to the event. The gates open at 5pm, and the flights start at 6:30. Check the website for a list of allowed items.

How long could anybody have wished to see something at Lady Bird Lake? 4 weeks?
Uhhh, todays Aug. 22nd and Im pretty sure the thing is happening on the 25th. But unless you're offering Time Machine rides, you really shouldn't offer things for dates that have gone by.
It's the 25th.
I don't blame the author, I blame the editor/fact checker.
This thing was so fuggin' hot in 2003 that I wouldn't go again if you paid me.
No. My bad. I must have had a brain spasm, not sure how I got it wrong. Anyway, a small matter. It should be a good time and much cooler, that's why they moved it to the evening.
Will there be free Red Bull?
When is there NOT free Red Bull?
maybe that's why it's at night this year #4?
i mean #5, oops
Gee, guess you could have read #6's reply #9. I mean #10.
I like how nobody figures that it's still hot as hell outside at 5:30 or 7:30 or even 10:30 especially when you gather massive amounts of people but I guess you'll find out if you show up.
