If there is one thing that we love, it’s a good party. There are stipulations of course: there needs to be great people, great food, great drinks, great entertainment and of course, the crowning factor, we must have had absolutely nothing to do with organizing it. Thankfully, we can always count on the Austin Film Festival to do the heavy lifting for us and on Wednesday, October 10th, they are serving up just what we ordered with the 5th annual Film & Food Party, with all ticket sales and silent auction proceeds benefiting the AFF Young Filmmakers Program.
The Young Filmmakers Program has long provided Austin-area youth extraordinary educational opportunities and exciting avenues for creative exploration. They have spearheaded super cool projects at the Dell Children’s Hospital, including a film-themed infusion room and film making camps. The YFP also offers free writing & film programs through AISD high schools which aim to develop stronger communication skills and foster an interest in writing. The YFP has also partnered with the Travis County Sherriff’s department to develop an initiative that empowers teens to speak out and create awareness about important issues facing their lives through self-written/produced Public Service Announcements. Who doesn’t love a good PSA? Needless to say, this is one of the most radical non-profits in town, and to help support it you get to go to a party. Sweet!
Besides being a fundraiser for a more than worthy cause, the Film & Food Party is a whole barrel of delicious fun. The event will be held at the historic Driskill Hotel where Austin’s most delectable cuisine will be presented by the finest chefs from restaurants such as Dona Emilia’s, Eddie V’s, Fleming’s, Driskill Grill, Roaring Fork, Primizie Osteria, Clay Pit, Royer’s Round Top Café, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Siena Ristorante Toscana, Roy’s, Teo, and Aquarelle, you know, to name a few. While feasting and imbibing, you will rock out to live music and get the chance to snatch up some fabu gift certificates and products from Austin’s top salons, spas, restaurants, hotels and boutiques, as well as autographed movie memorabilia during the silent auction.
For just $85 ($70 for AFF members) you can enjoy what is touted as one of the “most fun and entertaining” events of the year, and if the “libations flow all night long” as the AFF website promises, we can almost guarantee that a good time will be had by all.
