You think you're funny, huh? Think you know how to make movies? Think you know how to make people laugh with a movie? Well, if you're not deluding yourself on any of those counts (or if you'd like to discover whether or not you're delusional), you should totally get your camera and your FinalCut rolling and start perfecting your entry for the Funniest Filmmaker in Austin contest. Sponsored by the Austin Film Festival and Cap City Comedy Club, the Funniest Filmmaker contest welcomes short films of 5 minutes or less from amusing Austinites.
Semifinalist films will be shown at Cap City Comedy Club on Monday, August 20th, and the finals are to take place at Cap City the following Monday (August 27th, obvs.). The most hilarious short will be screened at the Austin Film Festival this October. In addition to the glory of having their film screened at a prestigious festival and the honorable title of "Funniest Filmmaker in Austin," the creator of the winning film will win two all-access passes to the Austin Film Festival.
Procrastinators can rejoice: the entry deadline has been extended until Thursday, August 16th at 6pm, so you still have time to throw a little something together. (And if your entry focused on spider pigs, you may want to, uh, rework it a bit--that's been done, friend.)
It's free to enter, so you've got nothing to lose--except maybe your dignity. But didn't that sort of dissipate a long time ago, anyway? Start working your funny muscles and come up with a classic comedy short before tomorrow's deadline. Films can be mailed to or dropped off (at this point, we're thinking you'd do well to drop them off) at the Austin Film Festival:
