Last season, Applewhite was the offensive coordinator at Rice, helping the Owls score a school-record 350 points en route to their first bowl appearance since 1961. Applewhite's offense produced a 1,000-yard rusher, a 1,000-yard receiver, and a 1,000-yard passer for the first time in school history. Yeah, definitely hired just for the name recognition.

He was hired on hype and name recognition, not on his intrinsic value as a coach and coordinator. Syracuse was worse-off for having him there as a QB coach. Fucker.

It's not really his debut; he was the OC at Rice last year, and the offense did quite well under him. It is, however, his OC debut at a major program with big resources and expectations.
