Food + Wine Event Preview: Celebrate Summer At The Field Of Dreams Tasting

DellDiamondOne.jpg

As summer draws to a close, it's frustrating at times to realize what you never got around to during the season. Whether you meant to rent a boat, go to the beach, or visit the ballpark, sometimes the time just flies right by. Thankfully, the Wine and Food Foundation of Texas have given all foodies an excuse to drive up to Round Rock and check out the Dell Diamond before summer's end (though there won't be a game that night). The second annual Field Of Dreams "Grand Slam" food and wine tasting will feature top Austin chefs, excellent wines, and a silent auction. All event proceeds benefit The Miracle League, The Nolan Ryan Foundation and The Wine & Food Foundation of Texas. Thirteen Austin-area restaurants will be on hand, including the likes of Hudson's On The Bend, Mirabelle, Salt Lick 360, Fleming's, Gumbo's, and Doña Emilia’s. Desserts will be served on the open-air concourse at the diamond, and event organizers will have a photographer present to take pictures of guests overlooking the field. The silent auction will feature both food and baseball-related items, including signed Nolan Ryan memorabilia.

A strong lineup of wines will round out the event, featuring labels such as Chateau St. Jean, Sbragia, Wolf Blass, Greg Norman, Gabbiano, St. Clement, Stag's Leap, Beringer, and Meridian. All told, it's a great way to spend a summer evening at the ballpark, and if one wishes to join the Wine and Food Foundation ($50) when signing up, they'll give you a $20 discount on your tickets!
