My apologies for my absenteeism, kids! It's been awhile since I've set my babblings online at the Austinist. I've either been taking nights of from The Laurie Show on KUT or sitting in for Jeff McCord on Left of the Dial, which is on earlier than my show.

It'll feel great to be back in my usual time slot late tonight. I promise you plenty of musical goodies. Now rub your hands together and laugh evilly. That's it...

Speaking of evil ( and I mean that in a nice way), I'd like to send out big, hearty thank-you's to my esteemed colleagues of local theater brigade Loaded Gun Theory, hosts of the 4th annual Slapdash Flimflammery: Bride of Slapdash spectacular summer event. On July 28, I, along with several other victi - uh, I mean, actors, memorized scripts that were written overnight by local playwrights, and performed the material that very night to a packed room at the Arts On Real Theatre. I've dubbed this experience as "kamikaze theater," because you're basically a bundle of nerves hurriedly memorizing lines and stage direction all at once in one day. Only insane people would do something like this...so I fit in perfectly.

Special thanks to my cohorts in crime: Miriam Rubin, Andy Smith, writer Brandon Salinas, and our director Karen Jambon.

Onward to musical adventures!

I've been conducting new interviews and refreshing some previous ones I did for Before the Break, so I'll feature plenty of music tonight from the artists you'll be hearing about, including Belaire, Bill Baird, She, Sir, Dynah, the White Ghost Shivers and The Boxing Lesson. Thanks to each and every one of these fantastic artists for taking the time to chat with me, and being so hospitable. Mr. Baird, thank you for the iced coffee, sir. And to the great peeps of The Boxing Lesson, who gave me a preview of their latest material: Europe won't know what hit 'em, if I may be so bold.

Making plans for live entertainment tonight? You should be. To inspire you, here's an early show alert: The Black is headlining a performance at the Scoot Inn on E. 4th St. tonight, with Headdress and Bobby Ray Coy on the bill. Like I said, get there early. You won't want to miss it.

Later in the evening, the Continental Club on S. Congress will be alive tonight with the sounds of Pong, Cat Scientist, and Lick Lick. Over at the Mohawk on Red River, make way for Pela, Moonlight Towers, Radar Radar, and The Naysays.

The Summer Wardrobe takes the stage tonight at Hole In the Wall on Guadalupe, with Suzanna Choffel, Holly Light, and Ben Shepard getting things started.

Snake Eyes Vinyl will have a location change going down pretty soon, but there's still time to catch an instore performance at their place at 1211 E. 7th tomorrow at 6 p.m., featuring Best Fwends, the Show Is the Rainbow, Gay Beast, and Jacob Ide. Get yourself on over there and show your support.

Later tomorrow evening, there'll be shows a-plenty. Darling New Neighbors has a gig at the Carousel Lounge with I Love You, all the way from Kansas City, plus The Happy Tingles, and Prom Nite.

At the Parish, the White Ghost Shivers celebrate their DVD release by tearing it up with the Hot Nut Riveters, featuring the one and only Guy Forsyth. This will be quite the memorable occasion, so get out there and boogie, dolls.

Also, tomorrow night at the Mohawk, Big Black Smoke shares the bill with Shapes Have Fangs. Don’t forget the Shapes Have Fangs residency performance this Wednesday, presented by Hot Freaks! and Gorilla vs. Bear. I'd like to recommend catching the happy hour beforehand at the Grizzly Bar. Mmm. Day beer.

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday! Time for some mighty RAWK with The Sword, sharing the bill with Saviours and The High Cost of Living at Emo's. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., so get there early and prepare for the onslaught of rawk-ness.

Some gigs going on next week that you won't want to miss: Tuesday at the Mohawk, it's Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit, Centromatic, and Micah P. Hinson. Pompeii has an instore at Cheapo Discs at 914 N. Lamar Blvd. on Wednesday. Thursday will be the day to catch Lomita on the Emo's inside stage with Fizzy Dino Pop and The Lonely H. Also on Thursday, the Black & White Years, Haunting Oboe Music, and Moses & The Burning Bush are at the Mohawk.

Time for me to gather the music for tonight's airwave adventures. Yes, I'm definitely on the air and back on track: 11 p.m. to 3 in the frickin' morning on KUT 90.5 FM. Out of town? Stream it, baby. Until then, in the words of my pal RoboCop, thank you for your cooperation. Ain't Fridays grand?
