New Movie Release Rodeo!
Rush Hour 3: Don't Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker look dismayed to find themselves in the third installment of their never-ending Rush Hour franchise? If you find it hilarious to watch a BLACK GUY and an ASIAN GUY fighting crime--together!--then look out, because now they're fighting crime in France, the funniest place in the world! Which one of them do you think will be eye-rolling and making fish-out-of-water quips while dangling from the Eiffel Tower three-fourths of the way through?
Becoming Jane: Looks like all of Jane Austen's novels have been made into movies in triplicate by now, so it's time to bring her (sort of fictionalized) life to the big screen for fans of Anglophilic ladytime period dramas. The wa-wa-wee-wow Anne Hathaway stars as Jane.
Gypsy Caravan: This documentary follows a bunch of Romani bands--both at home in Spain, Romania and India, and on tour in Europe and America, with pretty footage from docmaster Albert Masyles. Many myths about Gypsy business are dispelled, Johnny Depp appears in a fan-testimonial cameo, and it's sure to be way more entertaining than listening to Balkan Beat Box like, ever again.
Skinwalkers: Sexy werewolves ride motorcycles, engage in soft-core romps and shoot many guns, all to chugging nu-metal riffs. Strangely enough, Rob Zombie had no hand in this.
Macbeth: The director of Romper Stomper puts his over-the-top stamp on Macbeth, transposing Shakespeare's tragedy into Melbourne's ultraviolent gangster underworld. Will the Australian crime bosses commit flashy murders while spouting dialogue they seem not to understand? Yes. But hey, boobs.
Goya's Ghosts: Natalie Portman suffers through Spanish Inquisition tortures while the normally sexiful Javier Bardem is forced to wear a crappy wig and do weird things with his mouth. Milos Forman directs, and as Amadeus proved, he's no slouch when it comes to period pieces involving both lunacy and genius.
Stardust: Claire Danes is a fallen star. No, really, that's her role in Stardust, a fantasy-swashbuckling epic that aims for Princess Bride territory with a whole lot of CGI thrown in for good measure. Myriad evil forces connive to trap the beauteous fallen star in order to harvest her magical powers, including Michelle Pfeiffer as a cougar witch in need of a youth dew injection. Robert DeNiro and Ricky Gervais provide the requisite salty comic relief.
