Fashion Bits!

  • I%27m%20Not%20a%20Plastic%20Bag.jpgMercury Design Studio is raffling off eight I'm Not A Plastic Bag canvas totes, designed by Anya Hindmarch to encourage recycling. These limited bags are already sold out in major cities. (Read about the nation-wide craziness, paralleling Harry Potter-like mania, reported by our sister blog Gothamist.) The 2nd Street store is raffling two bags a week through August. Raffle tickets cost $5 apiece and all proceeds go to the Town Lake Trail Foundation.
  • Tribeza Magazine is hosting its annual Style Week again this September. Specific information about the event hasn't been announced, but we can expect a Style Week Kickoff Happy Hour and Designers Showcase on the 19th, a Boutique Crawl on the 20th, a 2nd Street District Fashion Show on the 21st, and a Wedding Day on the 23rd at the InterContinental Stephen F. Austin Hotel. So mark your calendars, fashion-freaks. And, hey, even if you don't care about fashion, there's bound to be free booze.
  • Wow, just what we need, more retail competition from chain stores! The controversial opening of Hill Country Galleria is scheduled for October. This 650,000-square-foot retail project includes a Dillards, Barnes and Noble and Cinemark theater. For a list of other retail tenants, click here.

    You mean Lady Bird lake

It isn't any MORE affectationist, it's just AS affectationist.

You can help town lake hike and bike without being a consumer whore you know.

I don't see how carrying a $300 tote is any more smug or affectatious than wearing $200 tennis shoes or paying $35 for a five-dollar cap with a longhorn emblem on it. Long as it cuts down on plastic waste (& the raffle benefits Town Lake), I'm OK with it.

although.... those mercury raffle tix are only $5 AND proceeds go to the town lake trail. not a bad bet!

barf barf barf! i've been bringing my own damn canvas bags to the grocery store for years. they don't say "i'm not a plastic bag" but they also cost nothing because i snag them at promotional events. i'm still a smug twat, but i don't pay a shit ton of money for a stupid smug bag.
