Re Texas getting fatter - You'll notice that all the red states in the last map are also the poorest states in the country. Ever think about the fact that it's pretty cheap to buy a (terribly calorie-dense) meal off the McDonald's dollar menu? Cheaper to buy a loaf of white bread than whole grain? Cheaper to buy soda, Kool Aid, Juicy Juice or Tang than fresh OJ? Maybe some kind of subsidy for CSA programs or co-op grocery is in order.
