Daft Punk's Electroma FREE at Alamo Lake Creek

Synth-obsessed French duo Daft Punk have accomplished a lot in the past few years. They sort of singlehandedly created the sexxxable electronic dance music genre that's all the rage with today's youth. They paved the way for Air, Ratatat, and the Ed Banger consortium. They made some videos with Michel Gondry. Also, they figured out that they really, really like robots.

In fact, they like robots so much that they went and directed a movie--a slow and maddeningly arty movie--about two robots who embark on a dusty California road trip hoping to become human. Kind of like The Brown Bunny! But maybe slower. If you're looking for lively, tightly wound narrative action, move right along. However, if watching impassive robots tear up a deserted Cali highway in a 1987 Ferrari sounds like so much awesome to you, this is your film. Warning: Contains extremely creepy latex mask modeling; may cause nightmares.

Curiously, Daft Punk decided not to score the film, instead choosing music from the likes of Todd Rundgren, Brian Eno and Curtis Mayfield to paint the perfectly meandering sonic backdrop. But not to worry: Co-presenters Party Ends and VICE Magazine have ensured that there will be Daft Punk-centric DJ sets before the screening, courtesy of the verbosely-named Markus with a K and Ocelot of iheartcomix. Oh, and it's FREE. Be early!
