Ultimate Simpsons Experience @ Alamo Drafthouse

simpsons.jpg What more can really be said about the Simpsons and the indelible yellow smudge they've left on pop culture? To celebrate the opening weekend of the Simpsons' ascent to the silver screen (beginning next Friday, July 27th), the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar and Village are planning characteristically over-the-top shenanigans. At the Alamo South Lamar premiere, a life-sized Homer and Bart will greet fans, and a Squishee machine in the lobby will provide tasty, relevant refreshment. Both theaters encourage you to arrive early for the Simpsons pre-show, compiled from the Alamo's vault of favorite Simpsons clips and rarities. To complete this Simpsonstravaganza, the evening's menu will feature the Krusty Meal, the Ribwich, and of course, frosted donuts with sprinkles. (Okay, all together now: Mmmm, donuts.)

Oh, and if the Simpsons/foodie thing really gets you going, then do not sleep on the Simpsons Feast, a four-course meal accompanying the movie at Alamo Village ( 7pm, July 31st) and Alamo South Lamar (7pm, August 1st). They'll be offering Chief Wiggum's Chili as an amuse-bouche, and donut casserole for dessert! Can you identify and contextualize each Simpsons reference? Now is your time, Simpsons fans (and honestly, who among us isn't?), to truly nerd out.

Seriously? No Duff Beer?

Why don't they get together with Independence for a weekend?

Apparently the reason that 7-11 didn't make Duff Beer for their crazy Simpsons promotion is that Fox wanted it to be a kid-friendly thing. I imagine this is in the same spirit.

Plus, you'd really just be buying a regular beer with a Duff label slapped on it. And while that's fine and all, it's nowhere near as fun as the Ribwich or the pink donuts.

an australian company already tried to make duff beer and was slapped by mighty hand of fox's legal department. I imagine it's not worth the risk for the Alamo or any brewer.

The Simpsons hasn't been worth watching 8-9 years.
