Harry Potter and the End of an Era
JK Rowling's final installment in the Harry Potter series comes out at midnight this Friday, and at least one local store has already sold out its entire pre-order.
The 1,500th voucher for one of BookPeople's initial batch of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was picked up late Monday afternoon, making this series finale—which weighs in at a hefty two pounds—their biggest pre-order book of all time.
"We have never sold this many book vouchers this quickly and this far in advance," said BookPeople's CEO Steve Bercu. "Not for any of the previous Harry Potter books or even Jimmy Carter or Bill Clinton. It really is amazing."
Coinciding with the worldwide midnight launch, BookPeople will again host a massive Harry Potter geek-out extravaganza, replete with fire dancers, a Sorting Hat ritual, faithfully recreated scenes (the Tri-Wizard Tournament, Diagon Alley), and performances from the Austin Wind Symphony, Wax Museum Pandemonium, That Darn Band, and "wizard-rockers" The Mudbloods.
Wristbands for the "more exclusive portions" of the party can be purchased on Friday morning for $5, though we imagine (or hope) that most of the festivities are free.
