Woman Killed By Flying Tire on I-35

Austin's 37th traffic fatality of 2007 is also one of our Top 5 Things That Terrify Us About Driving.

49-year-old Rochelle Jones was heading north on I-35 on Monday evening when a flying tire slammed into her Hyundai, smashing the driver's side. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Austin Police are still unsure of the errant tire's origins. "We don’t know if it was actually on a vehicle, or it might have been cargo on a vehicle," said Laura Albrecht with APD. Current speculation is that it was dislodged from a commercial vehicle in the southbound lane. The tire also hit another car and a building, but no one else was injured.

Anyone with information on this horrible incident should call detectives at 512-974-4724.

Arghhh! Thanks for feeding my irrational fears. As a jogger I regularly run under highway overpasses and have had several nightmares where vehicles fall off the overpasses onto me. Thanks for adding random flotsam and jetsam to my fear list.
