Local Filmakers Needed - High Fives & Free Tickets

Would you like to film a secret show at a downtown Austin venue this Friday Night? SUPER!ALRIGHT! media is offering a rare chance to see a monster band in a small intimate setting in exchange for your video footage.

Show up with your equipment, get into a show, film the event and receive a free ticket to the show (duh), 2 drink tickets, a t-shirt (they've assured us it won't be off their back ... unless you're into that kind of thing), and a giant high five. If interested, please send your resume and information about the kind of camera you own to info@superalright.com. HDV is preferred but not required. Submissions deadline is Thursday at 6 PM!

No offense but this seems too easy...Spoon @ The Mohawk (just my guess)

this whole secret show thing is stupid. the only thing it accomplishes is to waste the time of people that would have been happy to purchase tickets.

it's good advertising for the promoters though. and what do they care if they create a giant inconvenience for you?

it's going to be spoon.

I concur greenplastic0000...secret show idea is ridiculous. Great advertising, but I guess they don't want any employed non-hipsters over 21 to be in the pictures later.

i hope its spoon, but i aint got no camera. i will draw some pictures to get in...

Secret, no secret, message in a bottle, pony express, or announced a year ahead of time, I say this is why I love Austin.

hey greenplastic (and guest) - what if it's the band that wants the show to be a secret and neither the promoters nor the venue has any say in it? what then? great for the promoters - how? the promoters WANT to sell tickets. how does it being a secret help them do that?

here's an idea though after the secret show go up to the band and tell them how much you hated the whole "secret show thing"...

You guys are dorks. Its Grizzly Bear opening for Art Brut. Dance!

To Guest # 6 who said (great for the promoters - how?) --because it is free advertising with no money spent
Hello...Mohawk had the Decemberists and everyone remembers WHERE that was right?
And I might actually show up late when the show ends and tell Spoon that "I hate the whole secret show thing". That I would have paid a lot of money for a small venue when they sent me an email from their Fan Club. THAT could be a secret, no? Only Members of their fan club...hmmm seems simple.

Love the Mohawk...hate MySpace and so called SECRET shows.

I will stop commenting now.

Understood. I love you too. I will buy you a beertunie when I see you.

Photographers should be paid for their services, its things like this on Craigslist that are scams and have been consistently hurting the industry. Stop selling yourselves short, tickets are not nearly enough compensation particularly if you are providing your own transportation and equipment!

Photographers should get with the times. Anyone with photoshop nowadays can take a great picture or at least make it look like they took a great picture. And yet... AMOA still devotes gallery space to your typical garden variety Barton Springs fluff that anyone in this town with a SLR could have taken over the past 10 years.

So yeah, count your lucky starts. You could be an actual artist with talent and have to listen to photographers whine about how they're getting the short end of the stick cause they ain't Annie Lebowitz.

The concept for the shoot simply requires too many cameras to pay everyone (or anyone). One of my favorite reasons about living and working in Austin is the ability to rally people around a cool creative concept from time to time. I've worked on literally hundreds of free/basically nothing paying jobs because I thought it was cool and fun. What separates Austin from LA is the willingness of creative types to help each other out on projects that may not always have a budget. I think you'll find the best jobs tend to be the lowest paying ones. We take the higher paying jobs tat aren't as interesting to have time to do stuff like this.

We also hope to find shooters from Friday to pay for future, smaller shoots. This is how connections are made. I hope you can come, beertuny on me too.

Erik

You want still cameras or movie cameras or both and can I bring an old ass movie camera to shoot with or do you want it all digitized?

It all needs to be digital. I would love to shoot film but I don't think I can pay for the transfer and telecine. It would be cool though for sures.

DAMN YOU ERICALRIGHT!!!

Can we get a confirmation that this is somebody we wanna see?

Making everyone show up with a video camera is discrimination against poor people. I'll be talking with the ACLU about you, erikalright. You better be prepared to let me in, camera or none or I'll get Jesse Jackson and the Rainbow Coalition on your ass.

If you go rent this and show up I'll reimburse you and get you drunk.

Hows that?

I don't have $20. :(

All parties involved benefit from these not-so-secret shows...except maybe those fans that have to work tomorrow- like me :( This model generates that coveted buzz-word "buzz" for the label, band, booker, and venue. In fact, I bet reps from each of them are trolling this and other blogs to see just how much buzz is out there. Just go enjoy the show and maybe a whiskey.

How ya gonna reimburse me if I can't pay for it in the first place?

How about you get it, hold onto it, give it to me when I show up and then get me drunk?
