I'm sure there are plenty of Spoon purists that won't be too thrilled with some of that 20% that Tom refers to, but I'm pretty happy about it. At the end of the day, none of us really want Girls Can Tell II, and it's a sort of perfect relief that Daniel's songwriting is so tight that older versions of their sound can still resonate the way they do amidst broader instrumentation and (perhaps) more radio-friendly tunes. It's all tempered pretty well with his brand of I'm Almost Really Creepy But You'll Never Notice Because I'm So Damned Addictive methodology. Listening to the lyrics of "Cherry Bomb" cemented that for me.
