Decemberists. Acoustic Set. Free.

Bummed that you missed out on tickets for the Austin City Limits taping? You're in luck.

The Decemberists are playing a (not so) secret acoustic set on the inside stage at The Mohawk this Wednesday. Doors at 7pm, show at 8pm. Get there early, because if the line outside KLRU's studios today was any indication, it's gonna be nuts.

Also, it's completely free.

I hired a day laborer to save my spot in line.

  • guest

Those are not people. They are jobless spoiled trust fund babies.

  • guest

Just went by - about 50 people standing outside 15 minutes ago.

  • guest

yeah about 12:15 ish. there were some kids out there. with umbrellas.

i wonder what the line for bartons springs opening again is like?

  • k

    anyone drive by mohawk yet?

  • guest

Yes. If you have any further doubt go to any Jos in the middle of the day and be AMAZED at the number of trust fund babies positively corded like logs inside.

  • truecraig

Do we really have THAT many trustfundies here in Austin? Seriously. If there ARE that many, then I'd like to befriend their bar tabs.

  • guest

silly bear, they don't arrest us trust fund babies, when approached by the authorities we show them our trust fund baby cards and then they say, "oh, excuse me sir"

  • guest

isn't that venue 21 and up?

  • guest

Anyone who buys one of those is a sucker. You know that "space available" means that you will not get in at all nunca-nunca-nunca.

  • Wes

I just want to add a big "screw you" to all of the jerks who were selling the FREE space available ACL taping tickets on craigslist.

  • guest

damn. hes said 'sctuffy'. thats like scuffy and tuff all in the same facial hair. i googled it, but no luck. must be new. awesome.

  • guest

No, they don't have jobs. They're all trust fund babies who like to scum it up at the Mohawk and pretend with their buddies that they've had a hard life trying to fit in with all the other pretty trust fund babies with the dark hair hanging in their beautiful ashen faces with the headbands and the sctuffy facial hair.

If I worked at Mohawk I'd let them camp out all night then get the pokeys to throw them in the pen right before sunrise since camping is illegal downtown.

  • k

uh yeah, i might ride by on my bike when i get off work at 5, but it seems impossible.

  • guest

    I'll bring the cocktails!

    ....the molotov cocktails.

  • guest

10 hours? be there by noon? don't you people have jobs? isn't it costing you money to miss half a day of work for a "free" show?

i mean, i like the decemberists, but c'mon...

  • guest

sweet live acoustic tunes. if i was 18, i would be there in a second with campin gear. im 31, and instead, will watch my decemberists DVD on my couch while munchin on a butterfinger. not as fresh and hip, but then again, neither am i...cheers to them.

  • guest

No way they're going to fit 200 people on the inside. MAYBE 100, with most people not even being able to see.

    I predict disaster. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

  • guest

The last myspace secret show had people waiting for over 10 hours just to get in the show for some no name bands. If you're not there by noon, don't even bother.

  • guest

So Marc (bartender) says the band wants 100-200 people tops and has been asking for the inside. The guys at Mohawk are going to try to convince them to do it outside when they get here (if they can), to allow more folks to see it. Its the labels call. Either way, free festival band in a relatively small joint. Nice.

  • guest

    Im stoked. Yipeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • Patrick C

I would be surprised if they were able to cram in more then a couple hundred people. The new stage is nice but at the end of the day it's still a fairly small room. The White Denim show was excruciatingly hot and sweaty. Fun, but still.

  • guest

Sweet baby jesus what a great way to celebrate my birthday, but when it comes to this, I'm with k. I'd much rather spend the $20 and know I'm getting in. Even with that new inside stage set up, that place is tiny inside. How many people are they expecting to get in?

  • JohnM

I used to listen to the Decemberists a lot, but their live show was one of the more disappointing ones I've seen in the last year. I don't see what all the hype is about their performances - they nearly put me to sleep with that 12 minute one from The Crane Wife when they played Stubbs.

  • k

i would rather pay the $20 and know i'm going to get in

  • guest

My mamma says Im getting in and shes always right. Aw, c'mon poster 15. The Decemberists wouldn't want us quarreling like this. Lets hug it out. I love you. (open arms)

  • guest

Who says you are getting in?

  • guest

I hear ya, but I dont care who is putting it on. I just hope it happens more often. Im a decemberists fan and Im just glad they arent charging me 20 bucks to see it at the backyard...

  • guest

    A few things to note:

    1) Look for something similar by Spoon at this same venue in the near future.

2)Why the Decemberists' fans aren't pissed about this is beyond me. They could have played an "intimate" show in a venue that would be much more accommodating to the crowds.

3)For those of you who haven't figured it out, this is Marketing 101. Transmission Entertainment has put themselves on the map with this one.

  • guest

    Gentlemen, start your transmissions. Wow.

  • guest

Bitchen. Im gonna play an acoustic set outside on the street to the crowd.

    Love,

    Bob Schneider

  • guest

Sound guy says the label asked for 'intimate' inside show. They built a new inside stage set up (if you were at the White Denim CD release party, you saw it). I have no business drinking cocktails at 8. I dont want to know me at midnite.

  • guest

Sweet. And Sweat. But more sweet than sweat.

  • guest

Inside!? That place holds about 30 people inside tops.

  • guest

love it. sad bastards acoustic on some stools. im bringin kleenex and some campin gear.

  • guest

Didn't any of you Austinisters see "Gimme Shelter"?

You just created Red River's Altamont!

  • oh steph

I like the "it's gonna be nuts" tie in with the poster. Very clever, AYC.

  • guest

My bets are on this filling up with the swarms of Austin's high-school hipsters out of school and and nothing else to but spend a whole day in front of Mohawk. Oh, to be young again.

  • Patrick C

Wow, that's gonna be seventeen different flavors of madhouse, right there. Anybody wanna put money on how many hundreds of people deep those lines are going to be? Bueller?

Pretty cool, though. Mohawk has made a hell of a name for itself conspicuously fast.

  • guest

oooooh guilty pleasure. rad. im there.

  • guest

Well there went any chance of actually getting in to the damn show...
