Austinist Preview and Giveaway: Soundcheck Summer Showcase at Emo's
Soundcheck has grabbed our attention constantly over the last year with colorful covers presenting regional talent like Voxtrot and Midlake. However, the glossy magazine features national acts as well, while keeping a close eye on major festivals -- both home and away. Soundcheck also incorporates additional flair into its usual, stellar content every month. An “Artist Perspective” feature (from the likes of Ramesh Srivastava) and columns such as Hometown Heroes keep this local ‘zine hip n’ fresh.
This Friday, the magazine brings us the Soundcheck Summer Mini-Festival featuring a number of extremely gifted acts. Austin provides eccentric electro-rock from the Octopus Project and dance-floor synth-pop from Clap!Clap! to the gala, while the national acts include Ian Cooke (Colorado), Murder By Death (Indiana), and Peachcake (Arizona). Pilotdrift from Texarkana complete the impressive line-up and DJ Cody Haynes supplies the beats between sets. Doors open at 7pm and the first 100 people to arrive get free drink tickets and a compilation CD consisting of two songs by each of the bands. So why not enter to win admission on us, and then show up early for booze on Soundcheck? Sounds like a good plan, all in all.
This contest is now closed. Thanks for reading and congrats to our winners!

Soundcheck is a great magazine. I met one of their photographers at a couple of gigs over the past year, great guy. They represent the Austin music culture very well.
