Mohawk Residency: Treewave With Special Guests

res.gif The Mohawk residency concert series continues tonight with Treewave, who we hear will be joined by special guest Bill Baird.

Treewave, as you probably know, are a Dallas-based band that practice shoe-gazingly superb songs that utilizes otherwise obsolete '70s and '80s video game gear. They are truly kickin' it 8bit style. The songs are created with really gritty assembly code, and is made possible by Commodore 64s, an old PC FM sound card (OPL3), and a dot matrix printer. Their accompanying video is courtesy of an Atari 2600. The sound is, essentially, really noisy pop music ... Lauren Gray's vocals help close the gap between super geek experiment and listenable pop purity.

Joining them tonight will be {{{{{{Sunset}}}}}, which consists of Bill Baird (of SOUND Team), Sam Sanford, and Jordan Johns. Our pal @ Gorilla vs Bear fills out the concept with words from Bill himself, who claims that he is arranging a "daisy chain of amps around the room creating alternate spatial listening experience and natural delay."

Um, that might be pretty fucking cool, actually.

As usual, the residency is sponsored by the good folks at Hot Freaks, Gorilla vs Bear, KEXP, The Onion and yours truly.

I hear that treewave got his pitfall patch in the mail today. god, its like defender and missle command with guitars and keyboards. slap on some early cure and some front 242 and im going to gush a geyser and steam up my genera hypercolors tee. fuck, im going out to nuke some steakums and slurp down a cherry 7up before I head down there.

Then Im gonna rock. Oh, am I gonna rock. Its gonna be a virtual tsunami of Me in there. Doin the Tron.

never heard of em

We also had Joey Koehl from Gulf of Mexico on lead guitar, Willis McClung on pedal steel, and Paul Sisler on Dobro. It was truly a supergroup.
