Lawrence Wright to Receive 3rd Annual Award of Literary Merit
The Writers' League of Texas will be honoring author Lawrence Wright on September 21st with the 3rd Annual Award of Literary Merit. The award seeks to recognize individuals who "embody the League's mission of promoting literacy and elevating the art of writing." The first two Awards of Literary Merit were bestowed upon Sarah Bird (2006) and Anne Patchett (2005).
Currently a staff writer for The New Yorker, Lawrence Wright has authored several books as well as a few screenplays and plays. His latest book, The Looming Tower: Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11, was heaped upon with praise and awarded several prizes, including the Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction. Wright resides in Austin and plays keyboards for Who Do.
The Writers' League plans to celebrate in style at the Mansion at Judges' Hill and they'd like you to be there. Tickets for the September 21st event are on sale now at the early-bird price of $90. The price goes up to $100 after July 2nd. The evening will include a speech by the honoree as well as live entertainment, a seated dinner and an open bar. Very nice. Act now as seats are limited and the savings of 10% could be easily converted into tips for the open bar bartender.
