After maintaining a low profile since their "Night At The Opera" at Hogg Auditorium in January and SXSW showcase, hometown dance-noise champs Ghostland Observatory are unleashing a triple kung-fu combo punch on Austin this summer. On Wednesday, they'll play a "secret" show at Emo's as part of the club's anniversary celebrations. Then in mid-July, the band will tape an episode of the PBS series Austin City Limits - call the ACL hotline on 475-9077 for more info on tickets. Finally, GLO will rock an encore appearance at ACL Fest in Zilker Park on September 16th, after a 2006 performance that was both widely lauded and so damned noisy that Austinist editor Allen Chen could hear it clearly while walking on South Lamar.
While GLO have been absent from Austin stages, they've been getting crowds dancing in the Pacific Northwest. The Dallas Observer attended a recent Ghostland show at the Sasquatch! festival, reporting that "lead singer Aaron Behrens darted and slithered around the stage, whipping the crowd into a frenzy until the duo rocked just a little too hard and blew out the power!" Whether you catch them in the (relatively) intimate environs of Emo's this week or at the decidedly non-intimate ACL Fest, you're assured of seeing one of the best live shows on offer in 2007.
